Report Berlin, Apr. 23.
The exceptional liquidity that prevailed last weekend and caused call money rates to slump to the unusual figure of one to two per cent, continued but to a decreasing extent because short-term investment was this week obtainable in sola bills not available last weekend. Higher rates therefore continued during the week but, as the quarterly remittances of taxation receipts from the Reich to the states again produced a momentary abundance of money, rates fell again on Saturday to 1% to 2%.
The recovery in share prices towards the end of last week was not maintained, prices dropping again at the beginning of the current week and remaining depressed until Frida: ie. the day after the Fuehrer's birthday when there was a rally that continued on Saturday, many shares again reaching the level at which they had stood a week ago.
The amount of business done was not large but the amount of shares on offer was insufficient to meet all demands. This was interpreted as a sign that the international tension from which business had suffered had undergone a relaxation. Mining and bank shares were totally neglected Bonds remained quiet throughout the week.
