New Fiction

Dornford Yates is too well known a novelist to need introduction in these pages, his prolific output bearing the hall-mark of excellence and originality, His most recent effort, "Gale Warning" (Ward Lock, London. Colonial Edition. 3/6), is a well-nigh perfect story, light yet so full of dramatic thrills. It tells with a masterly touch the romance of John Bagot, a delightfully ordinary Englishman, and the many adventures he encounters in England and France when he teams up with a couple of amateur sleuths to track down and exterminate a dyed-in-the-wool social parasite. His travels take him to the most outlandish places, but always is the narrative sustained at fever-point while the dialogue and characterization show once again that this talented author has few peers in the art of creative imagination and ability to please. Dornford Yates at his best.—
