Bucs Change Tactics

The start of the second period saw the Buccaneers play with renewed tactics. The combination of Carson-Ryan-Squires immediately took effect. With the elongated centre shooting from within the foul zone and Squires on the side-line, the Marine defence was ripped wide open. This enabled the champions to reel of four baskets without any reply and the game was never in doubt. In the latter session Ryan countered three times by using his height to the best of his advantage. The Marines, on the other hand, were all tied up and had practically no means of breaking away from the Buccaneers' airtight guarding.

Ryan started to score when he tallied a foul shot and then followed up with a feld basket. Solomon opened the Reds' account. Then Carson scored a foul throw only to see the score equalized by Nittinger, whose shot tied the score at 4-all. Midway through the initial pene, Carson and Solomon each converted from the foul line, Squires followed suit to put his team in the lead at 6-5 but shortly before the half-time arrived Solomon contributed three points to gain an upper hand by 8-6.
