887-9 Bubbling Well Road Motive Believed to Have Quarrel Over Money Motives of revenge following a dispute over money matters are believed to have led to the murder in the French Concession yesterday morning of a young Chinese student, who, after being trailed by a gunman, was shot and seriously wounded in the head while walking near the corner of Avenue Edward VII and Route Tourane. Taken to St. Marie's Hospital after the attack, the victim died at 4 o'clock yesterday afternoon.
Identified as Chin Vu-ting, aged about twenty years and a student of an educational academy at 1051 Bubbling Well Road, the French Police discovered that the youth's parents are coal merchants residing in Fah Wah village in the Western district.
Clad in foreign-style clothes and carrying a satchel full of text books and note books, Chin was walking along Avenue Edward VII when his assailant appeared at his side, pulled out a revolver and fired one shot. Chin dropped to the ground, wounded in the head, while the crowd of people in the vicinity scattered for shelter. After making the attack the assailant escaped.
Chin was removed immediately to St. Marie's Hospital but his condition did not permit his being questioned. After enquiries among his family and friends, however, the French Police believe that his murder was prompted by a recent quarrel over money matters and the arrest of his assailant is expected in the immediate future.
