German Vessels Stranded

¿|In Japan Ports Ships Not to Be Given Japanese Registry Tokyo, Mar. 6.

The Japanese Government is not considering the possibility of transferring the registry of several German merchant vessels now stranded in Japanese ports to Japanese nationality, the Commerce and Industry Minister, Mr. Ginjiro Fujiwara, told an interpellator in yesterday afternoon's Committee Session of the Lower House.

The idea was dropped because of "Technical difficulties," he explained, the British Government having announced that it will not recognize any such transfers made since the outbreak of the European war It is recalled that a similar interpellation at the beginning of the present Diet session had attracted the attention of the Allied embassies in Tokyo, and probably led to the explanation to which the Commerce Minister referred.
