BOMBAY COLTON MARKET

Bombay, Feb. 5.

Owing to the marked scarcity of contracts in the Bombay Cotton market during the past week, buying found sellers scarce, which resulted in a rise in prices, The pressings of Berars in the Central Provinces for the week ended January 21 totalled 52,296 bales, compared with 43,650 bales last year and 27,009 bales in 1936.

Meanwhile, foreign cotton imports to date amounted to 272,396 bales, compared with 122,758 bales last year.

Broach ginnings will begin during the first half of February, and arrivals are expected here by the end of February.

A rather better offtake for Oomra styles was reported in the spot market, as a result of prompt shipments and demand from Japan.

The basis for staple styles was easier, with domestic mills being less active buyers.—Reuter.
