Chapoo Road Bridge Sees Activity

Thousands of Chinese wishing to return to the area north of the Soochow Creek thronged the Chapoo Road. bridge yesterday afternoon, seeking passes issued by the Japanese authorities for that purpose. The hour for the issuance of the passes had been set for 2 o'clock, but long before that time many Chinese were on hand near the bridge. The Municipal Police from Central District kept order, although the issue of passes was and is purely a Japanese arrangement which has no reference to the Municipal Council. Application forms provided at the Yokohama Specie Bank are handed to members of the Special Service Department of the Japanese Navy, who issue the passes.
