Heavy Industrial Programme from Our Ow Correspondent

Çhangchun, Feb, 16.

Along with the development of industries which will require large amounts of electrical energy at low rates, comes an impressive- power programme. The national power develópment scheme which the Manchoukuo Government is carrying out just above Kirin, on the Sungari River, even though supplemented by that on the Ching Po Lake, still left a serious shortage in South Manchoukuo. To provide for this the governments of Manchoukuo and Chosen are participating in the Yale River Hydro-Electric Ca, a Y.100,000,000 dam at Suihodo, a, small town on the bank of the Yalu, will provide water for seven 92,000 k.w., hydraulic generators, which, the company proudly point out, surpass the 82,500 k. w. units at Boulder Dam. The company claims that the dam at Suihodo will even surpass in grandeur the famous American structure on the Colorado River. The Yalu Dam will be over half a mile'long and rise over 300 ft. from the foundation to the highest point. The average effective head will be about 254 ft. and the maximum available water power is given as 4,000 k. w. less then the total rating of the seven generators.

About 300,000 k. w. will be available by the end of 1941. Six other sites have been selected and these with other places, to be decided on, are said to havea total available power of 1,600,000 k. w. Meanwhile the Manchuria Electrical Ca, is spending Y.5000.000 on a hydro-electric plant on the Hunkiang in Hunanjen Prefecture, Antung Province. They propose to supply 60,000, k. w. to the ron industry 80,000 to the get metal industry and 50,000 kW to coal mining and other industries. For immediate needs in the southwest a new power plant at the Fouhsin Coal Mines in eastern Jehol will supply 54,000 k. w. It is planned to extend this plant to be one of the largest in Asia.
