Fatherland Front to Start Campaign

Vienna, Feb. 28.

The Government late to-day rushed 3,000 additional troops, including a section of the Air Force, to Graz to bring the Austrian Nazi stronghold under a state of siege. More than 40,000 Nazis in Styria Province, of which Graz is the capital, earlier had been reported planning a Nazi putsch and a march on Vienna.

Federal troops blocked all roads leading to the city and barricades were erected on all main street intersections throughout the city.

Herr Adolf Hitler's key man in the Austrian Cabinet, Dr. Arthur Seyss-Inquart, Home Minister, meanwhile was between two fires and faced removal unless conditions in Styria became quieter. He was attempting to persuade Styrian Nazis to restore order in Graz where Nazi flags have been hoisted on a number of public buildings and also comply with demands of the Chancellor, Dr. Kurt von Schuschnigg, that Nazi demontrations be suppressed by force immediately. Some Nazi quarters already have condemned the Home Minister as a "traitor" for sending special police reserves to Graz to reforce Federal troops.
