Junior Division

The work of our Junior Division looms large In the public eye, for in this effort we plan to give some help to many of the underprivileged youths of this city. The war gave us some anxious days and nights for the Safety of the lads in our summer holiday camp at Tsingtao, but beyond longer stay there and some exciting days, everything turned -out saltist torily. I Bespeak your special attention to our Junior work which is now an established and growing activity, Participated in by many firms and individuals who give us material assistance in order to make this public service possible.

Membership Members are the life blood of the Association, and both membership committees' in charge of this work fre giving much time and thought to the matter. We are well served by our membership, but in Shanghat there is, of necessity, a largo turnover, and a need to make the Forelgn'"¥" known to many who would not only benefit from joining our ranks but who would fad in the membership a fellowship and impetus, with a large scope for the use of their talents to better serve the men of this community. I would earnestly ask your ce-operation in making the Services offered by the Foreign "Y" Keown to the men of Shanghai. In the "physical department alone we havea well-equipped unit as evidenced by the fact that, compared and unjustified. The Society, however, views the problem from another jangle and is mot satisfied that all Feasonable measures for the elimination of avoidable suffering have been taken, Representation is being made to the Authorities concerned with a view to improving without interfering with the food supply, the conditions under which these animals are transported to Shanghai, and with a view to Improving the landing facilities, and conditions of transport in with other Associations the world) over, we stand above the average in the participation of our members in the activities of the physical department. Lectures, Forums and Debates, forms of programme that In more recent years have had a growing popularity, during 1937 exceeded all former years in both attendance and. fu the "importance and worth while character of the subjects presented and discussed.

When you read the full reports of all our committees, I am sure you! will agree with me, that these deserve four commendation and close attention, for on this large volume of voluntary work undertaken by willing helpers depends the success of our entire work, The Foreign "Y" may have "a aunties spirit and know how types are set", but we would be without one of our most valuable helpers did we of have the wholehearted support lof the press of Shanghai, and 1 desire to place on record our high appre tion of this splendid assistance.

Trustees and Committees It is my pleasing duty to give voice jin this report to three things which force themselves on my. attention as I review our work in 1937. First with regard to your Board of Trustees, 1 have never worked with a finer Board; each man does his own particular job of work, and all take a keen interest and part in all that concerns the work of this Association, and this has made 1937 a year of excellent teamwork. It is also my very pleasing duty and. privilege to. most cordially _convey the grateful thanks of this Association to the members of our committees snd other members and friends who Hive so freely of their time and thought in making possible the large activities undertaken by the Foreign "Ye. And last but not least, we owe deep sense of gratitude to' our manent staff who, under the able leadership of Mr. C. W. Petitt, so well serve this Association.

And what of the future? From the very healthy state of affairs as evidenced in our reports for the year under review, I sin encouraged to believe, that this international fellow. ship (comprising 32 nationalities) will continue its efforts for the _public good, with the unimpaired vision of men with a spiritual purpose, united in a common Ideal of serving the Shanghai community; and to this end T know we shall have the valued help and ce-operation of all our members and friends in this city.

At the close of the meeting the election of Trustees was held, the following were nominated for the Class of 1941 and elected:—Messrs, W. C.
