Almost constant air alarms have keen sounded in Swedish frontier villages in the past 48 hours and Swedish anti-aircraft batteries have fired frequently on invading German planes.
Strong protests were lodged in Berlin on Wednesday against German violations of Swedish neutrality, but German planes appeared over the Kiruna area again less than 24 hours later.
Some quarters attached significance to the German flights over these rich iron areas because of unconfirmed reports of new German demands on Sweden. Germany was reported to have demanded early this week that Sweden permit German troops to pass through Sweden to relieve the German force isolated by the Allies at Narvik, Norway.
Germany also is known to be anxious to obtain control of the Swedish iron mines, a vital source of supply to the German armament industry.—United Press.
