French Agreement Guilder Rate Established For N.EI Trade

Washington, May 24.

Holland joined the Anglo-French monetary agreement yesterday and established the guilder rate for Netherlands East Indies trade at 7.60 to the pound and 1.87% to the dollar, the Netherlands Minister to Washington, Dr, A. London, announced here last night.

"Preparatory measures which have been taken to assure direct and indirect exports to countries not participating in the agreement will be fully maintained and will be payable only in United States dollars or other foreign currencies allowed by the Java Bank," Dr. London said. "All necessary ' arrangements will be speeded up and will be working in the very near future.

"Pending definite arrangements for a satisfactory exchange, the position of the Dutch banks enables the Netherlands East Indies to deal with all current business."—United Press.
