Catalonia is now regarded as likely to be the last of the Spanish Wor, which the Nationalist command expects to end when Nationalist troops reach the Mediterranean coast.
Although in the First Carlist War, Gen, Cabrera, known as the "Tiger of Maestazgo," reached Tortosa by crossing mountain peaks some of which tower over 1,000 metres above sea level, it is generally believed that Gen. Franco's troops are likely to reach the sea by following the Ebro valley from Gandesa, or to descend from Morella by San Mateo. This is believed to be merely a question of days but as the Nationalists seek to avoid casualties, it would cause no surprise if their offensive is temporarily slowed down.
