To the Editor of the 3 "NortH-Cuina Day News"
Sin,—The very outspoken statement made in your today's issue by the landlord on the subject of rentals "struck me pink," as Eddy Cantor would say, I would be very much obliged if you will allow me through the medium of your paper to ask the Landlord a few personal questions 1. Where did you, my dear Mr. Landlord, hear such heart-warming pave that most of your tenants were paid their salaries in foreign cur-Fency, and that it was an accepted fact that subject to the usual lag. salaries were adjusted when the local currency declined in value....
That, of course, is what you think, Mr, Landlord, but the better known facts are that only a few large firms have not cut the salaries of their employees during these trying days, while the remainder of nearly 90 per cent. had not only shortened their staffs but to the remaining employees cut the salaries by 50 per cent, and asked them to wait for the better times, 2. Why recite such unhe news that for the house t $100 a month, tenants might, in A¢cordance with the terms of' the PoE ae 5 circular be forced to pay a "rental of $1,425"....why not state, that tenants may be forced to pay $142.50 per month...
That, I think, Would be more appealing to the general public opinion and more possible, 3. And what sbout all the Chinese tenants who definitely are paid in Chinese Dollars...and they too may be forced to pay in Foreign Currency..
Poor Fisn.
