CAMAN Bob Harvey, British China Fleet Champion, got up from the floor twice after being fouled, to win a decision from hard-battling George Levchenko in the ten-round main event of last night's boxing programme at the Canidrome Gardens.
This climax to the evening's eight bouts was unsatisfactory especially since to the ninth round, both men had been infighting most of time, but there were no unfair blows struck.
A large audience watched tensely as the two men, middleweight and welterweight proper, contested a close bout through eight rounds,, with Levchenko appearing to have the better of the going. The ninth and tenth rounds, however, put an end to the fine display as the Russian boxer scored a three-count knockdown and then struck his opponent a low blow that laid Harvey in the resin for several seconds.
