People in the Far East are well aware of the increase in the strength of Britain's Regular arm, but little has been printed about that lesser known, but equally important unit of Home defence, the Territorial Army, which is now playing its part along with the other Regular and Volunteer Services in making Britain impregnable against attack from the air, A letter recently received in Sharighai from a former Shanghai schoolboy, the son of local British residents, who has been in camp with a Territorial unit at Brighton, paints an attractive picture of life in this arm of the Service, and it would appear that these civilian soldiers serve under the best possible conditions, and that their fortnight each year under canvas, constitutes a welcome change from the humdrum monotony of office routine in the cities.
How welcome that change is to the city worker is clearly illustrated in the first few paragraphs of the missive, as follows, "Well, I wrote you shortly before we left for camp, and now a fortnight of very interesting and happy life has slipped by all too quickly. Tt all makes me rather yearn to be in one of the regular services, though there would be probably rather more tricky work to be done than in this T. A. business.
