Amoy, Apr. 14
Thirty seven Japanese warships are said to be lying off the coast of Fukien, including a large aeroplane carrier, Raids and. reconnaissance flights are made daily from the carrier on many of the towns of the province. The two cities particularly marked out for bombing raids have been Foochow and Changchow, Three and sometimes four times a day aeroplanes drop their explosive missiles. The casualties have not been great, for it is the aerodromes of both places that have received special attention.
Yet many houses have been blown to pieces, but these, for the most part, were deserted, the inhabitants having taken themselves to the outlying villages to live there until happier times. Two weeks ago many people came to Amoy from the Changchow district and asserted with confidence that a Japanese force had landed on the coast "at one of the little ports. This news did not prove to be correct. The military authorities fearing such an invasion had determined to destroy all roads and bridges lying between Chuanchow and the sea, Important britiges were mined so that they could be destroyed at a moments notice.
