More Progress

ENTERPRISING and up-to-date as ever, the Dowager Countess of Clanbridget will launch a series of jam-sessions (she thinks that is the expression) of swing music, at which jitterbugs (she hopes that is the right word) may dance, in Clanbridget House this winter.

She has been rehearsing some of the steps and expressions with Poems, lier butler, who entered her service shortly after the Crimean war.

"For example said Poems to a yesterday, "her ladyship will shout Floogey wom, hot baby: and I, correcting her from the book of words, will say 'I suggest it should be floogey warn-warn, hot baby, my lady.

"We will then face each other, and stamp, each endeavouring to hit the other's right hand so as to produce a resonant clap.

"So far we have only succeeded in hitting each on the ear, but I have no doubt that her ladyship will improve with practice. As for me, it would not do to show improvement before her ladyship."
