The two-mile race, which fell to the favourite Gold Vase, resembled a procession from beginning to end Night Express, who not very long ago was reputed to be only good for half a mile, used all his brawn and muscle to plod through the two miles and finish third four lengths behind Un Un Un. Going into his usual lead early in the race, he was well ahead of the field when the field had reached the stands the first time round. When then three quarter mile post was reached he wa: many lengths in front and victory looked like a certain thing for him, but after a short distance he tired and the field gradually closed up. He entered the straight with three lengths to the good but Gold Vase and Un Un Un passed him at the furlong post to take first and second place, Saucylight took the seventh race from Toodle-do and Houdini while the favourite White Major could not do better than run a good fourth.
Kanoungtoe won the eighth race to award his patient backers $71 for 2 win ticket after a close race in which Experience and Pearlylight filled the minor berths. Mercury (late Bram-shot) was made a raging favourite it the pari-mutuel but was not in the picture at the finish.
The ninth race was divided into two sections to avoid an unwieldy field. The first section was won by Gram who rode Port St. Mary to victory beating Record Mark by a length and a half while Goldenray was third a length and a half away.
The second section fell to The Cosmopolitan attar a neck and neck duel with Duke of York all the way down the straight and it was perhaps Vaitland's stronger riding that decided the issue. Welfonfels filled the remaining place a length and a half away. l—Race, 34 mile.
