New York, Nov. 18.
Freddie Apostoli of San Francisco tonight reigns as virtually the middleweight champion of the world follo: ing- his slashing win over Young Corbett III by a technical knockout in the eighth round of their battle at Madison Square Garden.
Apostoli, lashing out with the fury of a maddened bull won the New York State Boxing Commission's recognition as world's middleweight champion when he administered to Corbett, the "Old Man of the Ring" the worst beating in his 18-year career.
A hysterical crowd of fight fans, many of them screaming "Stop it!" watched the San Francisco Bellhop tear into his former teacher almost from the time of the opening gong Corbett fought back savagely for the first two rounds, but after that it was but a question of time until Apostoli could put across the final blow.
Infuriated by Corbett's attack in the first two rounds, Apostoli cut loose with everything he possessed during the remaining six rounds. He threw punches in all directions, some of them missing, but most of them find: ing their mark.—United Press.
