ING Carol LI abdicated at 5 a.m. today under the pressure of the pro-Nazi Iron Guard, leaving the Army's strong-man. Suma, Foreign Office spokesman to- General Victor Antonescu, in charge of the Government and the kingly mantle on the fragile shoulders of my son," 18-year-old Crown Prince Michael.
Crown Prince Michael took the oath as King at the Royal Palace at 9.28 a.m.
"I address myself to the Rumanian people. I accept the duty of becoming the King of Ruma In this God help me," the Crown Prince s:
"I pledge my faith to King Michael. In this may God help me. Let God help King Michael and myself," Premier Antonescu said.
Pro-Iron Guard members of the Royal Council were reported by re liable quarters to be demanding the seizure of King Carol to make him pay" for the thousands of Iron Guardist lives that he had taken during his reign.
Older members of the Iron Guard, however, were said to have urged escape in his private plane.
