$100,000; Prefers Amateur Status Hollywood, Dec. 7. S. Helen Wills Moody, the world's greatest woman tennis player, disclosed today that an unidentified promoter had offered her about U.S.$100,000 to turn professional, but she refused the offer.
The Californian player, who this summer created a new world record by winning the Wimbledon title for the eighth time and bettering the seven-victory mark of the late Mile, Suzanne Lenglen, said she turned down the offer because she preferred to retain her amateur status and play in tournaments at her own pleasure.
