This will be an interesting test case as far as the accused officials are concerned for they are not supposed io be under the jurisdiction of the Settlement court which the new Nanking regime once made " futile attempt to take over owing to opposition from foreign authorities bourd by the Court Rendition Agreement.

According to the report, the accused officials have allegedly organized a salt company themselves and negotiated with a certain group of salt merchants to ship salt to the company. To carry out an agreement the salt merchants shipped 500 piculs of salt to Woosung in September. The salt is stated to have been un loaded and put in a godown. The merchants were asked to pay $1250 salt tax for which they obtained a receipt from one of the accused officials.

The petition to the court is- said to have alleged that the officials have failed to pay the price money of the sale thus sent to them despite repeated written requests made by the merchants.
