Eighty-five Entered in One Event; Cordon Rouge, Merrylight in Champions "By Crave"
Entries closed on Wednesday last for the Shanghai Race Clubs New Year Race Meeting to be held on January 2, 3 and 4, and are most Satisfactory both with regard to quality and number of ponies entered in the different races.
One race which is a handicap finds as many əs 85 ponies entered, which will enable the handicapper to reclassify them into six separate classes, so as to give this number of races.
The only race to receive small support is the one open only to 3rd class ponies being winners this season. This gets an entry of five. For the two mile race, twelve names appear on try sheet, but eight of them are ponies, indicating that this stable houses most of the stayers.
The entry for the big race on Wednesday which is The New Year Handi-cep Champions at 11 furlongs is good as 14 ponies of class are on the entry sheet, including, amongst others, Merrylight, Cordon Rouge, White Parade and Night Express. Also Sparkling Morn is entered under his new name' of Magic Circle, and owned by Mrs. Win. McBain in whose colours he will race.
