New York Stocks

Monday's Closing Quotations

New York, July 18.

Stock prices on Wall Street today finished with gains up to about 2 points, with initial timidity following by bolder buying on the sharp improvement in steel operations, At the same time, the possibility of a conference on the steel wage question in connection with Government contracts is being kept alive by rumours of a probable wage cut. Motors further responded to a better production estimate, while coppers were bolstered by a higher export price and the advance in the domestic price. Rails joined the upward trend, which is coincident with the conversations going on regarding the proposed reduction in rail wages. The turnover today amounted to 1,560,000 shares.
