Foxx Again

Another display of batting power was given by Jimmy Foxx, who joined the four-for-four club of the day despite the fact that the Boston Red Sox dropped a 5-4 verdict to the Cleveland Indians. Included in Foxx's líst of hits was the longest home run ever hit in Cleveland, a drive that sailed far out over the centre field wall—exactly 450 feet from home plate—and disappeared from view across the street. Experts estimated the blow travelled very nearly 600 feet.

In the National League, the Chicago Cubs completely blasted the last hopes of the New York Giants by trimming the Terrymen in both ends of a double header, 4-0, 4-2. The Giants were held scoreless in the opener despite the fact that they connected for 13 hits, because Bill Lee, most successful of all Bruin hurlers, turned on terrific heat in the pinches to completely end all threats of a score. Rip Collins connected for the only homer of the game.
