Sent Him Money By Boy

Some time later a Chinese boy who had been employed by Mr. Kotani came to Mrs. Kotani and told her that he was alive and had been taken from Ningpo to Nanking. The boy visited her a second time to inform her that her husband had been taken back to Ningpo. This time she gave the boy some money to take to her husband. with a request that he bring back a receipt evidence that he was still alive. Later she was overjoyed to receive a receipt in her husband's handwriting.

When a similar attempt at communication was made at another time the Chinese boy told Mrs. Kotani that vigilance of Chinese troops prevented him from reaching Mr. Kotani. However, after long months of worry, Mrs. Kotani was notified last December by the Daido Kaido Kaisha's local office that her husband was still alive.
