Is Believed to Have Been Severed Of British Officials Hongkong, Oct. 16. 'EVERANCE of the Canton-Kowloon Railway is believed to be imminent following the success of the Japanese today in landing in the Pean district, near Namtau; in the Pearl River delta and on the west side of the Kowloon peninsula.
Japanese troops are now marching towards the railway from both the east and the west.
Some quarters here even believe that the Japanese are already astraddle the railway at some point, as telephonic comniunication between Hongkong and Canton is completely interrupted.
The landing at Namtau was effected after an intensive bombardment, which was distinctly audible, on the British borders. Immediately after setting foot on shore, the new arrivals began pushing towards the railway in an effort to join up with the Japanese units advancing from Bias Bay.
