The eighth round of the Shanghai open chess tournaments and the first round of the championship were played at the International Chess Club last Wednesday night.
Jiritsky, the youngest competitor conducted a dashing attack against Karpen, but, as once before in the semi-final, let his opponent escape with a draw. Kosovsky held a; very definite advantage against Dr. Lipiner, but was unable to do anything decisive and finally had to share the point with his plucky opponent. Stasineviteh adjourned against Harnik in a position where the former's victory seems very probable.
