St. George's Day in Shanghai

St. George's Day, April 23, was observed in traditional style by Englishmen in Shanghai, this year's celebrations being the most impressive seen in this city for many years. A special feature was the presence at the service at Holy Trinity Cathedral of two companies of the British Regiment, The East Surreys, who paraded behind their Regimental Colour which was later placed upon the Altar and blessed by Dean A.C.S. Trivett. Prior to the Cathedral service, the wreath-laying ceremony took place at the Cenotaph on The Bund at 9.30 a.m. There were gathered members of the Royal Society of St. George, as well as representatives from The East Surrey Regiment. children were not forgotten, a special afternoon party being arranged at the French Club on April 22 for their entertainment. Photographs of the ball, held on April 21, appear elsewhere in this issue.—Photographs by N.C.D.N

Major J. T. Ford, President of the Royal Society of St. George, and Mr. R. F. C. Master place the Society's wreath at the Cenotaph.
