"Tokyo, Jan, 21.
The Foreign Office tonight attached grave importance to the action of a British cruiser in stopping the Asama Maru near the Japanese coast this afternoon and removing 21 Germans. After investigation of the circumstances the Foreign Office would consider suitable "counter-measures," it was learned in official quarters.
Foreign Office authorities said past experiences had shown that belligerent countries and neutrals held different views in the interpretation of the application of the contraband law to movements of belligerent nationals. It was further learned that the Foreign Office already had communicated its views to the British Government. ud naturally it was taking a serious view of the British action.—Domei.
