Concession Blaze Ruins Phone Lines

More Than 350 Subscribers Affected; Blaze Put Under Control in Short Time

When a blaze badly damaged a Chinese house at the corner of Rue Conti and Rue Chapsal yesterday morning, 370 telephone lines of subscribers living in the vicinity, were put out of order, and repair crews were busy throughout yesterday to re-establish the service as soon as possible.

The fire was under control soon after the Concession Brigade arrived on the scene but flames had destroyed the over-head telephone cables before the arrival of the tremen. Subscribers affected, reside North of Rue Conti, South of Route de Sikawei West of Rue Chapsal and East of Rue Capitaine Ravier. Whilst some of the telephones were in working order last night, it was expected that work on the remainder would be completed some time today.

The energetic work on the part of the firemen prevented the flames from damaging adjoining! houses whilst the building from Which the fire had at first been reported was seriously damaged. The cause of the outbreak is being investigated by Concession detective:
