Be Long Job

Another Attempt Will Be Made on Squalus Portsmouth New Hampshire,

July 15.

Salvage experts said today that the second attempt to raise the wrecked submarine Squalus and its 26 dead may take even longer than the seven weeks required for the first attempt.

At least 25 or 30 exploratory dives must be made before the new survey of the US$5,000000 submarine can be Completed since only five to ten dives a day can be made even under ideal weather conditions. These dives alone may take a week.—United P-ess.

The recruits literally were pampered and described their quarters as "more like a hotel than a barracks," Their beds were said to have hair mattresses and springs. Parents bringing their sons to the camps were impressed by the attractive menu prepared for the men.

'Most of the recruits regarded their first day, in' the Army as a holiday. They found the officers ready to relax ordinarily stiff Army -discipline. For example, Carter Star, Enderbytown cricket player, was immediately granted leave in order to participate in a vital match yesterday.

Jack Smith, heavyweight boxer of some note and not yet 21, applied for admission yesterday. He is seeking the physical benefits of Army life and expects to be supplied with sparring partners while in the Army.—United Press,
