US. Naval Exercises Well Under Way

"Defence" Scouts Sent To Brazilian Coast Washington, Feb. 15. The United States Fleet manœuvres in the Caribbean and south Atlantic remained cloaked in official secrecy today, but naval strategists here calculated a fast squadron of destroyers engaged in a scouting raid had reached Equatorial waters off the coast of Brazil.

Not even high Navy Department officials here are aware of the exact location of warships engaged in the manœuvres, because the two American fleets, divided into attacking and defence forces, were entirely in the hands of their commande: Navy officers said it was axiomatic, however, that the defence commander would immediately dispatch a protective destroyer squadron to the Brazilion coast for intelligence purposes. Any European Power attempting to attack the Panama Canal would logically send some of its vessels into these waters, it was pointed out—United Press.
