In the first semi-final between Corporal "Iron Jaw" Mardensky and Reserve Unit Corporal Cherimissin, an excellent bout was witnessed, both boxers trying extremely hard to carry the fight to the other, but the snake like lefts of the policeman had the effect of stopping dead nearly every attack of Mardensky. Through out the four rounds Cherimissin used his left hand to great advantage and a close points verdict went in hi: favour.
Buxton and Tihonoff, in the other semi-final, had a rare set-to. They unleashed punches from every conceivable angle and their heavy artil lery landed time after time on the other's jaw, but despite their almost bone-bending proclivities, no knockout ever appeared imminent. For almost the entire four rounds they went at each other hammer and tongs, but the Russian, a southpaw, appeared to have a distinct edge throughout the contest, while his superior stamina also stood him in good stead. He was able to keep to the attack throughout and though Buxton shook nim badly more times than throughout the four rounds, points verdict for the Russian Reziment representative was very well deserved. rko.
Only two bouts failed to go the distance, Galdvkin of the Russian.
Regiment scoring a technical knockout over Shatohin of the Police in the third round after the loser had suffered a great deal of punishment, while Goloinko of the Police gained the decision over Pisareff in the third round, the fight rightly being stopped by referee "Rennie" Parr after the soldier had taken a bad hiding.
The novice contests saw the Russian Regiment exponents secure a good lead, superior fitness and cleverness turning the scales, but with the exception of the bout between Goloinku and Pisareff all these contests were closely fought and the judges decisions were necessary, Novice Lightweight:—Pte. Igoshin (R.R.) beat Warder Davies on points.
