Good Heave

Prokofieff began the afternoon well taking the Shot Put with a heave of 403" to defeat Kachan by nearly three feet, while in the High Jump he cleared the bar at 5'734" again to oust Kachan. The eventual winner then had the bar raised to a level of six feet, but he narrowly failed to negotiate it and then wisely decided that he had had enough.

Fonseca, taking matters rather easily, took premier place in the Long Jump with a leap of 215" with Prokofieff ten inches behind. The winner, however, appeared to have a lot in reserve and could have undoubtedly have bettered his performance had it been essential In the Hop, Step and Jump, Fonseca broke the Police record with the very creditable effort of 45'1" with Prokofieff again in the runner-up position with 439".

A minor sensation was caused in the Cricket Ball Throw which many thought would go to Willie Ward. Kato, a sparsely built Japanese member of the Police, with a terrific heave of 3108" just got in front of Ward for first place, the Shanghai go keeper's best throw mere 18 inches behind.

In the race for the Police Divisi al Championship the Gaol representatives, last years winners, have already established a very useful lead, although it appears that they are likely to receive considerable opposition from the Reserve Unit and and "D" Divisions next week when the major events are decided.
