New taxation was imposed on Afghans by the Government for the purpose of modernizing and rearming the mountainous country, the Kabul correspondent of the "Almisri" reported today in an interesting despatch.
The Government intends to purchase arms and munitions for defence, fo create two new radio stations and improve communications by the establishment of three railway lines linking together the distant points of the little known land.
Afghan authorities, in the midst of their self-improvement campaign, also have launched on a clean-up of Communism, instituting close supervision of the Communist party's activities, the Almieri" added.
A special police force was created with- but one purpose in view: constant surveillance of the Reds. Stringent action along these lines already has resulted in the discovery of documents "dangerous to the security of the State" and has led to the arrest of two Red leaders, the "Almisri" concluded.—Havas.
