May 10—A heavy downpour of rain did not prevent going to see Mrs. Gande's roses this morning, We like the freshness of a garden riv of the weaker flowers hang is true; but the trees and shrub: than they do at other times and of the leaves show to better ad aw some beautiful roses in the garden and place must be given to "Mme Gregoire Sta n" What a charming rose this hybrid-tea is! The flowers are very large und of a delicate pink colour, the petals bein attractively curled. It would be difficult to find better Specimen than that in garden, it is planted on the cure and it has grown abo high covering a large area of wall space. The flowers were heavy with ain when we saw them: but this a peared to add to their beauty when seen from ground level. Climbing "Lady Hil. lington" is growing almost as strong as preceding, which is rather surprising when we ce at it is growing on the south side of the house in full sun. This rose is producing deep orange-yellow flowers in great profusion, dozens of them being open at the present time. "Blaze" and "Etoile de Hollande" were two other climbers seen attached to the walls of the house. "Blaze he more vigorous of the two and this bears scarlet flowers not unlike Paul's Scarlet Climber, but larger. The climbing "Etoile de Hol ay not be such a vigorous grower a y mentioned. but its flowers and foliage make wp for any ye. The flowers are deep crimson, shadowed black and they are very sweet-scented: the foliage is large, healthy and dark green. We have a specimen before us as we write and it has been a difficult job to ep it during the afternoon: we have had to ore than one handbag!!! The
