The China Campaign Committee, which, throughout the war has been the most militant body in keeping China's cause before the public, held its first annual meeting yesterday afternoon. It began 2% years ago as a small group of people interested in China and determined to help her, and its activities have developed beyond all expectation. It has organized 3,000 meetings; it has distri buted over 1,000,000 leaflets and culated many informative memoranda on various aspects of the struggle, and it has pushed the boycott of Japanese goods for all it was worth. It also initiated the International Peace Hospital and has sent out considerable sums of money for medical equipment and drugs, particularly Wang Ching-wei regime. Most Chinese newspapers criticized the Nanking set-up in editorials and special articles. The only exceptions were three papers which are controlled and financed by the new government.
The number of Chinese newspapers in Hongkong is steadily increasing. It is said that the Macao Government will establish a vernacular paper here and one in Macao. The one to be set up here will be the bigger. The Policy of the projected paper is to give some publicity to the Macao Government in view of the many rumours about it. With the influx of well-to-do people in the Portuguese Colony, the gambling revenue is increasing and this enables the Portuguese to launch a new enterprise in Hongkong.
