British Occupation Only As Precautionary Move Reykjavik, May 11.
Coincident with the arrival here of Mr. Howard Smith, former British Minister to Denmark, with documents accrediting him as first Minister to Iceland, a special proclamation was issued to the people of Iceland by the commander of the British expeditionary force here.
British occupation of Iceland, the proclamation asserted, is purely precautionary measure that aims only to prevent German Action against the country. The British Government, it emphasized, intends to intervene in no way whatever in the affairs of the Government and people of Iceland.—Havas.
