War Fund Remits

£1,505 Home The fourth and fifth waves, however, appeared barely to reach the northwest outskirts of the capital and their raids lasted only five and ten minutes, More than an hour passed between the attacks by the fourth and fifth waves.

Another Instalment Sent For Relief of Victims of Nazi Air Raids The response to the Central British War Fund's appeal for contributions, especially for their remittance on October 1 to the Lord Mayor's Fund for the Relief of air raid victims, was both generous and wide. £1,565 were telegraphed yesterday to London. Thus with the September re-pittance of £2,500 Shanghai have sent to England £4,065 to help in the great task of relieving distress resulting from the recent heavy air raids, particularly in the poorer London districts.

It has been noteworthy and encouraging to record that a real effort was made to send in donations on or before September 30. Cheques for £100, £50, £25, £10 were extremely welcome, while the large number of smaller contributions, whether in sterling or local currency, were equally appreciated, representing as they did genuine sacrifice on the part of the not-so-well-off. Mention should be made also of several big dollar donations from individuals and organizations which have assisted magnificently to swell the total.

September gifts, it is hoped, represent an earnest of Shanghai's desire to do their share in air raid relief. This work and that of the Red Cross generally is, it is only too apparent, likely to prove the most urgent of the causes to whose appeals the Central British War Fund tries to res-. pond
