Surely the -re-naming of roads has received sufficient discredit, in the confusion: which has filled Shanghai ever since a well-meaning systemizer changed the' familiar Park Lane, Bund and Church Hoád, to the always indistinct, often unmeaning. and frequently wrong ly spelt, Nanking, Yangtsze and Gna men. why then is Bubbling Well to become South Well Road. with a competitive North Well? And who is to kHow which is which? Suppose in process of time there comes another road to the Well, what will that be called? Why should the new road be Cross roads? This one deserves to be called Carter road. Beg the Municipal Council to let Bubbling Well alone; to keep within the Defence Creek. and not needlessly confuse a suburban,
