"New facilities to speed production of guns, ammunition and other defence articles have been started under contracts totalling about US$262,000,000," the message continued. "Over US$250,000,000 has been obligated for the purchase of milk, eggs and other agricultural products."
President Roosevelt's letter also said that "the gallant resistance of the Russian people has been an enormous help to all people resisting the Nazi war machine.
