U.S. Peace with Nazis

Declared "Silly"

Mr. Morgenthau Queries Debts "Over There"

Washington, Aug. 8.

Mr, Henry Morgenthau, Jr., Secretary of the Treasury, at a press conference today disclosed that the United States was considering the possibility of taking the world war debt payments out of "frozen" French funds in the United States.

He added that before the French funds were released, he wanted to see "what happens to American investments and debts over there."

Asked whether "freezing" regulations, such as imposed on the German-occupied countries also applied to Germany, Mr. Morgenthau said: "No. Any amount of money can be sent to Germany, and there is nothing we can do about it. It is silly, but we are at peace with Germany."—Reuter.
