American shipping operators finding alternative profitable routes in other parts of the world, apparently have not complained extensively regarding the loss of the once rich North Atlantic trades.

In peace time, from 40 to 50 per cent. of United States export commerce is trans-Atlantic to Europe, while the westbound Atlantic traffic represents about 30 per cent. of United States total imports.

Experts say that the maritime and commercial consequences of the European war to the North Atlantic region are beyond prediction. The United States appears to be gaining ground steadily im Latin America and tarts of Africa outside the combat areas. If Germany wins the war against England, and^ the United States remains non-combatant, Canada will be in a delicate position.
