Swedish Survivors Land

London, Aug. 17.

Twenty-seven survivors of ihe Swedish steamer Artois, which was torpedoed by a German U-boat while en route to Sweden, were landed at a port in northwestern Britain yesterday.

The survivors of the 3,509-top Swedish vessel said the U-boat at tacked the Artois in broad daylight and the ship's identity could not possibly have been mistaken.

One of the two lifeboats of the Artois were holed when launching, but the occupants plugged the leak with cotton balls to keep it afloat. Both boats were picked up after an hour in the sea.

"The bosun of the Artois, Gustav Neillson, who was mined or torpedoed five times previously, was killed when the torpedo struck the Artois.—Uniied Press.
