Soviet Claims Victories in North

Moscow, Dec. 17.

Russian troops continued their advance on the Murmansk and Ukhta fronts, the sixth Russian war communique said last night, but "on the other fronts there were insignificant skirmishes and patrol actions."

The Finns retreated from Salmijaervi (on the Norwegian border, 45 miles from Petsamo, which was reported taken by the Russians December 15), the communique continued. The Finns burned all the buildings in the town and evacuated the entire population, the communique said. Brick houses owned by national were not burned, the report said, but the windows were smashed and their inhabitants were carried off.—
