San Francisco Port to Be State-Run as Emergency San Francisco, Dec. 17.
Governor Culbert L. Olson, of California, today made a last effort to effect peace on the San Francisco waterfront through negotiations and said that, should the move fail, he would ask the State Legislature to legalize emergency state operation of the port of San Francisco.
The Governor said he hoped to consult directly on what means can be taken to immediately restore normal operations in the port. He said that he particularly wanted the ship clerks, who have been on strike since November 10, to accept a compromise plan submitted to the Govpt|ernor by his "Fact Finding Commission."
Governor Olson pointed out that the ship clerks have been on strike at a tremendous monetary loss to themselves as well as inflicting heavy losses on waterfront employers.—United Press.
