Japanese Active

In Amoy Area ssmciat to nee "wea Kulangsu, Mar. 8.

Japanese aggressive activity was resumed last Friday and Saturday. It is dimeult to get reliable news as li communication has been cut off between Kulangsu and the inland towns. This has arisen because the Japanese naval authorities insist that all foreign junks and vessels trading with the interior should be registered at the Naval Headquarters in Amoy. Foreign vessels coming from Chuanchow. bring news only from the adjacent districts. A few refugees from Changchow state that a Japanese aeroplane dropped bombs on that city on Saturday last and loosed one on the Chungsan Park where young volunteers were drilling. Some of these were Instantly killed. It was evidently a, bomb of great weight that was ung among them. Another bomb was dropped on the military headquarters and several officers were injured. The majority of the bombs fon the two successive days that the planes visited Changchow were, however, dropped on the aerodrome.

"A Douglas steamship—wirelessed Kulangsu yesterday to say that bombs were again being dropped on Chuanchow and. she could not enter the harbour to discharge cargo. 'The coast line all day yesterday, from 'Chipbee to Tongan, was systematically attacked by planes coming from the carrier lying outside the harbour of Amoy. It is reported that under cover' of these attacks troops tempted to land from three cruisers that are lying off the shore. Whether this Is. true—the information came from an official souree—or whether any success oltonded the effort is not yel_ known, The attempt, however, iis objective the destruction of the prosperity of Chuanchow as a foreign centre of trade; to remove Its prosperity to Amoy. to give some activity to that dead forlorn city. But, even should that attempt be successful that objective will not be attained. The Japanese region of business desola-Won and trade death will only be extended.
