FTER three weeks of relentless pounding, Red Army forces were reported to be entering the suburbs of Viipuri today. Rumours that the Russians had already entered Viipuri, published abroad, were not confirmed, but it was believed that they were not nearer than "several kilometres" from the heart of the city, as admitted in the official summary. Soviet forces may not enter the city proper for several days because of dare-to-die units determined to cover the retirement of their comrades to new lines and Line.
